Atlassian Terminology

Atlassian is constantly updating and changing the terms it uses to refer to various aspects of it's systems. Check out the guide below for theses changes!

"Issues" are now "Work Items"

The term "Issue" no longer defines a piece of work you're tracking in Jira... they're now called "Work Items".

Also "Work Types"

"Issues Types" no longer exist, instead the category a work item falls into is a "Work Type".

Visuals are updating

As with all changes you may still see "Issue" in various places in Jira!

Projects

The new term to define a group of work items

Spaces

Jira Projects are now Jira Space

The term "Project" no longer refers to a collection of work items in Jira - they're now Spaces! (Note that as of December 2025 this may still be in the process of being rolled out to everyone)
